CYSHCN Program Resource Center
If you are looking for ACT for Youth resources and technical assistance for your local CYSHCN Program in New York State, you have arrived at the right place!
CYSHCN Programs support Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs by connecting them to the services they and their families need to thrive. CYSHCN Programs are funded by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
ACT for Youth's CYSHCN Program Center of Excellence, also funded by NYSDOH, is responsible for providing support to local Programs in the form of technical assistance (TA), training, and other resources. The CYSHCN Program Resource Center is your first stop for that support.
A Note on Terminology
The term "CYSHCN" (pronounced "shin") originates from the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Children and youth (from birth to age 21) who have or are at increased risk for physical, intellectual, developmental, and/or behavioral or emotional conditions fall under the CYSHCN umbrella.
It's important to note that while we use the term CYSHCN frequently, it's relatively unknown outside of public health circles. That includes families as well as many medical and service providers. While the term is useful internally, we recommend that it be used sparingly (beyond explaining your Program name).
Who is the CYSHCN Program Resource Center for?
This section of the ACT for Youth website is designed specifically for staff members of New York State's county-based CYSHCN Programs.
