Staff Development

Staff Development: Training and Technical Assistance

ACT for Youth is funded by the New York State Department of Health to support local CYSCHN Programs through training and technical assistance (TA). We are here to aid you as you work to meet your workplan objectives and the needs of your community. Our assistance comes in many forms but shares a common goal — to improve the health outcomes of children and youth across New York State by supporting the important work that you do every day.

Needs and Resources Assessment

In order to assist you effectively, we need to understand your needs, challenges, and constraints. We also want to hear about what is going well, what you are planning, and the collaborations you'd like to pursue. Collecting this kind of information helps us gather resources, plan training topics, and develop tools so that we can support everyone's shared goals.

Annual Meeting

Your workplan requires that at least one CYSHCN staff member attend the in-person NYSDOH CYSHCN Program Meeting. This is an opportunity to meet with colleagues from across New York State to share your successes and challenges. It's also a great time to gather new ideas and think about cross-county collaborations. We look forward to meeting those who attend.

Training Opportunities

We are committed to providing training and support that is responsive to your needs. All trainings can be found on the CYSHCN Program training calendar.

Connect-CYSHCN Learning Community

Our training topics are designed to clarify your workplan objectives and to expand your understanding of the health condition topics you may be asked to support. Trainings aim to offer helpful information for both new and seasoned Program staff so that everyone feels supported in their professional growth. Check the CYSHCN Program training calendar for the next Connect-CYSHCN learning community meeting.

ACT-CYSHCN Office Hours

Office hours with ACT for Youth are an optional opportunity to connect in small groups or 1:1. Office hours will be held immediately following every Connect-CYSHCN meeting and can be used to extend the training topic or to inquire about other aspects of the work. Additional hours will also be offered each month that quarterly reports are due. Office hours that support quarterly reporting will be held in partnership with the New York State Department of Health.

Public Health Detailing Online Course

Anticipated in the second quarter of 2026, the Public Health Detailing course — which is required for CYSHCN Program staff — is designed to support your work engaging with partners and providers in your community. You'll learn how to identify community assets, assess needs, and create memorable and meaningful connections.

Webinar Recordings

The presentation portions of our Connect-CYSHCN training series are recorded and shared here for your convenience. Check back regularly as we will continue to add to the collection.
